Boston Judo, Parents’ Night Out and Tournaments!
Visit to Pedro’s Judo Academy
I had the opportunity to visit Pedro’s Judo near Boston this past week. Jimmy Pedro, World Champion and two time Olympic medalist has coached Rio Olympic silver medalist Travis Stevens who was also in attendance. Pedro’s organization, American Judo, will be working with us on our upcoming Hanabi Classic Tournament so I went to see how one of their Boston tournaments worked. I also got to see my old friend Steve Cohen from Chicago – himself a two time Olympian – who, with Pedro, was coaching a clinic for the American Jr. World Championship team soon to be competing in Portugal. Great visit full of judo and friends.
Parents’ and Kids’ Night Out!
Saturday, October 14 will be our next Kids’/Parents’ Night Out with pizza, games and teenage sempais. And we are watching the Disney classic Bambi! It is $35 and $5 for pizza.

Hanabi Halloween Classic
On October 29, Sunday, we will be hosting the Hanabi Halloween Classic judo tournament at Albany Middle School. This is our big annual event and we need everyone’s help. Parents can help with set up, scoring and break down. Every family should contribute a dish that we will offer to our guest referees and volunteers. All of our Honto students should compete. And our Chibi and Hajime students can also take part in a little sumo tournament before the regular competition begins. There is sign-up on the Hanabi website for help and register for the tournament.
