Yurii Sensei’s Party and In-Class Shiai,
Summer Camp, Black Belt Countdown, and More!

Yurii Sensei’s Party and In-Class Shiai

On June 28, we have a wonderful opportunity to do judo and sumo during our monthly in-class shiai and celebrate Yurii Sensei’s birthday! We invite all our Chibi and Hajime students to the sumo competition beginning at 5:30. At 6:30 our Honto students will compete in a team judo shiai (tournament). After we will have some birthday cake in honor of Yurii Sensei who will be turning…? I guess you will have to ask him.

Pokemon Summer Camp!

Hanabi’s Pokemon Summer Camp has completed its first week of Oshawatt Origami and Throh’s Judo is underway now in Albany, Piedmont and Alameda too. We’ll be watching last week’s camp video after classes this week. Remember that all Hanabi Judo members get 1/2 off of their monthly tuition if they enroll in a week of Hanabi’s Pokemon Summer Camp during any summer month this year. Camps go through August 23. Register at: https://hanabijudo.com/summer-camp-2024/. We’d love to have you with us!

Black Belt Countdown

We had about a dozen of our judo players attend the Black Belt Countdown meeting on June 12 to learn how they could achieve their black belt at Hanabi. Our goal for all of our young students to earn their black belt by the time they graduate from high school. We believe that by clearly defining goals we can maximize the possibility of success.

Thursday Double Class Winners!

Our Thursday classes begin at 5:00  with Honto (real) Judo, followed by Josei (women’s) class which starts at 6:35 and concludes at 8:05.  I had challenged our women students to come to both classes and complete 3 hours of judo in one day. This past week on June 13, we had two students, Ren and Mari, who accomplished this special feat.  This week they will be receiving a gift personally from me. Congratulations Ren and Mari!

Juneteenth

Hanabi Judo will have classes on Wednesday, June 19th.  There will also be Pokemon summer camp at Albany and Alameda.

There Will Not be Pokemon summer camp in Piedmont. (Though the Piedmont Recreation Dept. – through which we offer our camp –  is open, the Piedmont Unified School District, whose facilities we use, will not be open.
