Champions Cup, March Promotions and More!

National Champions!

Hanabi had a wonderful trip to Atlanta and the Youth National Championships. Chelsea fought hard, Charlee got a good win, and both Shuhan and Jargal won all of their matches by ippon – full point: Shuhan and Jargal are nationals champions!  Congratulations to all!

March Belt Promotions

March is promotion month and students will receive tests for their next shima or belt. The Belt Promotion Ceremony will be on Wednesday, March 27 at 6:45. If your child has earned a higher belt there will be a $50 fee.  If your child is promoted to a higher level of “shima” there will be a $35 fee.

March Belt Promotions

Wednesday, March 27, at 6:45 pm. Hanabi will be having its Spring Belt Promotion Ceremony where all or our students who have been promoted to a higher rank will receive their new belts. Please come out to congratulate them all!

Monthly In-Class Shiai

Friday, March 29 we will be hosting our monthly in-class tournament, or Shiai, as its called in Japanese. Our Chibi and Hajime students will participate in a sumo tournament at 5:30. At 6:30 our regular students will take part in a more traditional judo competition.  There will be awards for all.

Obukan Portland Tournament

Team Hanabi will be attending the Obukan Judo Tournament in Portland, Oregon on March 30. Obukan Dojo is 98 years old, one of oldest dojos in the United States.  One of the head Senseis, Rod Conduragis is a good friend of Dan Augustne; they traveled on US International judo teams in the 1980s. 

Kata Class

Our Kata Class, led by our wonderful national champion Stephen Morris Sensei, will be moving from Wednesday nights at 8:00 pm to Saturday afternoons at 12:30 pm.

Hanabi Spring Classic Tournament

April 13, Saturday, we will be hosting the Hanabi Spring Classic judo tournament at Pinole High School.There will be no classes at Hanabi on April 13.
