The Solano Stroll is on September 13 and Hanabi’s booth will be under the BART tracks at Masonic and Solano. We’d love to have you with us! We will be doing demonstrations, handing out stickers and talking to our neighbors.
On Sunday, September 13 the East Bay Tournament will be held at El Cerrito High School.There is a limited number of spaces so register now.

September is promotion month and all students will be individually tested over the course of the month. Students generally need 5 shimas (stripes) before they receive a higher belt but sensei can decide to expedite promotions. Shima promotions will be $35 and new belts will be $50. The belt promotion ceremony will be on Wednesday, September 26, at 6:45 pm. Come and watch!
Our 8 year old student Bitore returned home to Kazakhstan last month. He first started with us when he was three so going back to Central Asia with his parents and new (American!) baby sister is a big move. But one thing he could find both in Albany and in Astana was…judo! Bitore got off of the plane on August 3 and he was on the mat on August 5! Bitore, when you do judo in Astana think of your Hanabi friends!
