The Champion’s Cup Judo Tournament will be held this coming Sunday, February, 1 at Independence High School in San Jose. All Hanabi Honto students are welcome to attend. This is a required tournament for our 2006 Hanabi Team members.
Champions Cup 2026 Information and Registration
On Saturday, January 24 Hanabi held our monthly in-class shiai and it was amazing! Our Hajime class had 15 in the sumo competition while we had 37(!) in our Honto team tournament. The Spirit award went to our new student Jay who competed after only joining Hanabi a few weeks ago. Our best technique awards went to Bitore, little Duncan and Mei (who is no longer that little). Congratulations to all!
Kokushikan University of Japan will be visiting Hanabi from February 16 – 23! On Saturday, February 21, after our monthly in-class shiai, we will be having a farewell pot-luck party for the team and everyone! That evening, we are looking for a few families that can take a Kokushikan student for an overnight “homestay” experience. Let us know if you might be interested.
Beginning in February, the Honto class on Friday and Saturday will be extended another 30 minutes to allow for more training. The new times for Friday’s Honto class will be 6:30 – 8:30. Saturday’s Honto will be 11:00 – 1:00.
Hanabi will be hosting a week of “PokeCamp” in Albany during winter break from December 29-January 2. Like our popular summer camp, we will have judo and art activities – such as origami and anime – related to Pokemon.
