Fifteen of Hanabi’s strongest fought with heart this past weekend in Los Angeles and brought back “bling” to The Bay! Katarina, in her first major completion, won all of matches by full point, Ippon, to earn her gold. Juliessa followed, earning a gold by beating all of her opponents by full point in the novice division. She returned the next day to win a bronze in the standard division. Shuhan lost just once and beat her remaining opponents by Ippon to earn a third place, bronze. Taiyo had just one minor loss as he dominated his other opponents with 4 Ippon wins capped off by a spectacular throw in just 7 seconds to secure his bronze medal. Thanks to all for their support and congratulations to all of our competitors!
Our two 2026 black belt candidates, Marty and Charlee, performed the “Nage no Kata” or forms of throwing, before the belt promotion ceremony began this Wednesday, May 27.
We also presented 30 belts to our deserving students. Congratulations!
May’s In Class Shiai (tournament) will be on Saturday, May 30 and we will be having a pot-luck! Our little Chibi and Hajime students will be doing a sumo competition at 9:55 followed by our Honto students in the real team competition at 11:00. Everyone is welcome to bring a dish to share for our pot-luck after!
Hanabi will be offering 11 weeks of PokeCamp in Albany, Alameda and Piedmont starting on June 8. Each week features Pokemon related activities and all participants actually receive Pokemon cards every day! And we do judo! It is a fun adventure filled with games and art and your favorite sempai will be leading! Scholarships available!
