Hanabi’s Top Judo Winners, September Promotions, Solano Stroll, and More!

Hanabi’s Top Judo Developmental Champions

This past Saturday Lucas, Juliessa and Leo competed in Mountain View at the Top Judo Developmental and they looked great! Lucas won two out of three in his first division and, in a second division with bigger and older children, he got second finishing the day with two trophies!. Juliessa won both of her matches by full point “Ippon” to earn first place. Leo, just a white belt in his first tournament, beat a more experience yellow belt to finish in second place. Congratulations to all!

September Promotions

During the month of September Hanabi students will be testing for either a “shima”, stripe, or a higher rank of belt. Students must receive 5 shimas before being promoted to their next belt unless Sensei decides that they are qualified to go directly to the belt test. All Honto students must have attended an in-class or other tournament since May in order to be promoted. Shima promotions are $35 and new belts are $50. The belt promotion ceremony will be on Wednesday, September 24 at 6:45.

Solano Stroll

The annual Solano Stroll will take place on September 14 going from Berkeley to Albany and Hanabi will be there. Hanabi’s booth will be under the BART tracks at Masonic and Solano. We’d love to have you come out and support us! We will be doing demonstrations, handing out stickers and talking to our neighbors. It is always a fun event for all.

East Bay Tournament at El Cerrito High

On Sunday, September 14 Hanabi will be participating at East Bay Judo Institute’s tournament at El Cerrito High School. Hanabi has 25 students competing and we invite you to come and cheer them on!
