May’s In Class Shiai (tournament) will be on Saturday, May 30 and we will be having a pot-luck! Our little Chibi and Hajime students will be doing a sumo competition at 9:55 followed by our Honto students in the real team competition at 11:00. Everyone is welcome to bring a dish to share for our pot-luck after. Our Pot-Lucks are some of our favorite activities so please invite family and friends!
20 Hanabi Team members will be competing in Los Angeles on May 23 and 24 at one of America’s largest tournaments: the Golden State Open. This is a national point tournament meaning that winners can accumulate points toward selection for US international teams. Go Hanabi!
May is not just promotion month but the one month of the year we promote black belts. We have two 2026 candidates: Marty and Charlee. Students generally need 5 shimas before they receive a higher belt but sensei can decide to expedite promotions. The belt promotion ceremony will be on Wednesday, May 27, at 6:45 pm. Come and watch! Shima promotions will be $35 and new belts will be $50.
Hanabi Summer PokeCamp is an active Pokemon-filled adventure that includes judo, Japanese language and culture, and lots of physical activity. We paint, fold, draw, trade and talk Pokemon from June 8 through August 22 in Albany, Alameda and Piedmont. Join us!
