Team Hanabi fought at the Jr. Olympics in Spokane this past weekend and did wonderfully! Juliessa did not just get silver in her standard division but she also earned gold in the Novice division. Shuhan, Ren and Raangzen all earned bronze medals. (Shuhan actually beat the gold medal winner!) Ajax got two wins fighting much more experienced players. Kai fought in two divisions, with opponents up to 11 lbs heavier, and got two beautiful wins. Avi, just a blue belt, threw a brown belt – two ranks higher – for the first time. Congratulations to all!
With the completion of the Jr. Olympics this past weekend the Team Hanabi 2026 season has come to a close and our Friday and Saturday Honto classes will go back to their regular times: Friday Honto will be 6:30 – 8:00 and Saturday will be 11:00 to 12:30.
On June 27 we will be hosting our monthly in-class judo tournament. Our little Chibi and Hajime students will be competing in Sumo at 9:55 while our bigger, Honto students, will be taking part in a real judo team tournament at 11:00. Last month’s shiai was a wonderful success with over 50 judoka in attendance. Please come and enjoy the competition and the energy!
