On July 25 we hosted almost 50 competitors for our monthly in-class shiai (tournament). A dozen of our younger ones had a superb sumo competition with little Kyle coming out on top. 38 of our older members broke into teams and fought a more formal judo tournament. The best technique awards went to Wren, Joshy and our veteran Chelsea. The spirit award went to Robin! Congratulations to all and thanks to our family and friends for all of their support.
Hanabi is lucky to have members from throughout the world. We have members from Nepal, Nigeria, Japan, Colombia, Mongolia, Ukraine and more. While having an international group is fun sometimes it is sad: people go home. Bitore, who began with us as a three year old, will be retuning to Kasakhstan with his parents and baby sister, an American citizen who was recently born here. We will miss you Bitore!
Hanabi offers after-school care and pick up for students from TK to grade 7 at Albany schools as well as for students in Berkeley and El Cerrito. In our after-care students don’t just study, they do judo and art, all with Hanabi’s emphasis on respect, discipline and fun!
Hanabi still has summer camps going through August 21. Our camps feature Pokemon Cards, PokeCamp T-shirts that are stamped and signed by campers, Pokemon themed art activities and judo! Fun, fun, fun!
