33rd Annual Bojuka Judo Tournament
Bojuka Judo will be hosting their annual tournament in Seaside, near Monterey, on Sunday August 27. Last year we won several medals at this fun tournament and we encourage all of our Honto students to attend. For more information and to sign up go to:
Special Training at Tamayo’s Judo in Los Altos
Hanabi has been invited to visit Tamayo’s Judo club on Sunday, August 20 from 10:00 to 11:30 am for a special workout. Dan Augustine and Head Sensei Raul Tamayo have known each other since the early ’70s and were both national champions in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Sensei Tamayo trained under Willy Cahill, a 9th degree black belt and two time Olympic coach.
Mojica Judo
I had the opportunity to visit my old friend Tony Mojica at his dojo in Baldwin Park the other night. I fought Tony in 1981 when I was 18 at the Sr. Nationals in LA. (He beat me.) He has a wonderful dojo full of strong competitors. And he was also the coach of the Mexican national team for a few years. Great judoka. Great friend.
Solano Stroll
Hanabi will be participating in the Solano Stroll on Sunday, September 10. We will have a booth at Masonic and Solano from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and will present judo demonstrations throughout the day. We hope you can help us!
