March promotions are almost concluded and our belt promotion ceremony will be on Wednesday, March 25, at 6:45 pm. Testing is done continuously throughout the month until all of our students have been tested. Shima promotions will be $35 and new belts will be $50.
LaJohnica is ready to compete at High School Nationals
This coming Sunday, March 29, Avi and LaJohnica will be representing Hanabi at the High School Judo Nationals in Fresno. High School teams from around the country will be in attendance as Avi, last year’s third place USA Youth National champion and LJ, a relative newcomer to judo who has already won or placed at several local competitions, do their best to bring medals back home to Hanabi.
On Saturday, March 21 Hanabi had its monthly In-Class Shiai (tournament) and everyone had a blast! Thirteen students competed in the Sumo competition – which was fierce. We had almost 40 for the team completion, divided into four teams, and there were some beautiful techniques performed. Our eventual Best Technique winners were Rey and Alma with the Spirit Award going to Jojo who fought very hard against much bigger competitors. Congratulations to all.
