May Promotions, Pokemon Camp, Sumo Tournament And More!
May Promotions
May promotions continue this week and, by the end of the month, all of our members should be tested for a higher grade of shima or belt. The Belt Promotion Ceremony, for Hanabi dojo members who have earned a new belt, will be held on May 31 at 6:30 pm.
Pokemon Summer Camp
June 5 is the first day of our Pokemon Summer camp and there are still spots available. Campers learn to draw, paint and make Pokemon origami in addition to watching Pokemon videos and actually receiving real Pokemon cards. And we do some judo too! Super fun for kids from 5 to 15.
This past Friday, May 19, we had a wonderful initial Sumo and Judo tournament for ALL of our students! Four year old Luca Mykita was the victor in the Sumo competition with more wins than the other 12 competitors. After the competitions we celebrated together with a pot-luck that brought our students and their families together. It was a very special evening.
America’s First World Champion Work-out and Pleasanton “Open Mat”
It was a busy Hanabi weekend! In addition to our regular Saturday classes, on May 20, Hanabi’s teenagers had a training session with America’s first world champion, Anna Maria De Mars, the mother of Olympic Bronze Medalist and Mixed Martial Artist Ronda Rousey. Our students met and practiced with Anna Maria’s students from LA an enjoyed pizza after. On Sunday Team Hanabi attended an “Open-Mat” work out in Pleasanton with about 70 other members of the Bay Area judo community. Busy judo weekend but fun for all!
Memorial Day
There will be no judo on May 29. Hanabi will be closed in recognition of Memorial Day.
