October In-Class Shiai, Stephen Sensei, Hanabi Classic, and More!

October In-Class Shiai

October’s In-Class shiai (tournament) will be this coming Friday, October 17. The Hajime and Chibi students will have their sumo competition at 5:30 followed by the Honto judo competition at 6:30. All Honto students should plan on attending! Everyone is welcome!

Hanabi is lucky to have some wonderful instructors and Stephen Morris Sensei, who will begin teaching the Thursday Otona class at 7:00pm, is definitely one of them. Stephen Sensei tried several other martial arts before deciding to focus on judo and eventually ran his own dojo in his home of Ann Arbor, Michigan for ten years. Stephen became a serious competitor and won national championships both in shiai and in kata (forms of judo) competitions. A retired teacher, with a Master’s in Education, Stephen has been with Hanabi for about 10 years where he has primarily taught our Saturday kata class. I am sure the Thursday evening adult students will enjoy his instruction.

Hanabi Classic Tournament

Our Sunday, November 9, Hanabi Classic Judo Tournament will be held at Hanabi Judo. You can register on our website www.hanabijudo.com/events/HanabiClassicTournament. All students in the Honto class are required to attend. We will be welcoming guests from across Northern California!
