Sana Sensei arrived from Japan on April 7 and is at Hanabi this week! Sana places second in the Junior World Championships in 2018 and is recruited directly out of high school to become a professional judoka as a member of the Komatsu (corporate) judo team. Though she is a very successful competitor, here at Hanabi, she looks forward to working with our students and supporting their growth.
Our monthly Kids’ Night Out will be Saturday, April 11th From 6 PM to 9:30 PM. We will be watching Monster’s Inc. eating pizza, playing games, and having fun! Cost: $40 with $5 for pizza (optional). Please RSVP by 5 PM on Friday April 10th

Team Hanabi and family visited the Northwest and Canada this past weekend for training. On Friday, April 3, we visited Washington Judo Academy and had a tough work out with some of the USA’s best players. The following morning, in Canada, Hanabi attended the Regional Coastal Training with judoka from across British Columbia. We learned a few new moves and wore the “red sash” meaning that our students had to stay up for repeated rounds of randori. Shuhan went about 20 minutes straight with a half dozen strong players. Good trading, good time!
Hanabi will be hosting a developmental tournament at our dojo on April 19. This event will be especially for our newer competitors, offering them multiple matches in a more supportive environment. We expect all of our Hanabi honto students to compete.
