This past Friday, September 19, we had our monthly in-class shiai (tournament) and it was epic! The Hajime and Chibi students competed in sumo competition and Leo, who beat 5 of his opponents, was our first place winner. The Honto judo team competition attracted 45 of our students with Best Technique going to Sean and Taiyo. The spirit award, presented to our students who showed special perseverance, went to Vince, Duncan, and Augustin. Congratulations to all!
This past Saturday four of our young women took part in Olympian Sayaka Torra’s women’s judo clinic at City College of San Francisco. Monica, LaJohnica, Chelsea and Charlee learned a few of Sayaka Sensei’s favorite techniques and had the opportunity to practice with other women from all over Northern California. It was a wonderful opportunity to share judo and experience our judo community.
During the month of September Hanabi students have been testing for a higher level of “shima”, stripe, or a higher rank of belt. We have awarded shima promotions to almost 100 and, at Wednesday’s Belt Promotion Ceremony we recognized 34 more who earned a higher belt. We are proud of all of you!
