This coming weekend, March 14 and 15, two of Hanabi’s students, Ren and Shuhan, will be fighting in Wichita, Kansas at the Youth Nationals. Last year Avi placed third in this tournament and we are hopeful that our two young women, under the supportive coaching of our Yurii Sensei, will also come home with Medals. Shuhan is a past Jr. Olympic champion and Ren won two divisions in last summer’s America’s Cup in Hawaii so both are quite capable. Good luck Ren and Shuhan!
During the month of March Hanabi students will be tested for a higher level of shima (stripe) or belt. Students generally need 5 shimas before they are promoted to a higher belt but students can skip to a higher level if sensei decides it is appropriate. Testing is done continuously throughout the month until all of our students have been tested. For those who will be earning new belts our belt promotion ceremony will be on Wednesday, March 26, at 6:45 pm. Shima promotions will be $35 and new belts will be $50.
