This past weekend Ren and Shuhan fought in Wichita, Kansas at the Youth Nationals and won! Ren, in her first formal national competition finished in first place, getting the gold medal, while Shuhan earned a third place, bronze! Their performance is a wonderful compliment to the entire Hanabi dojo: students win because they are supported by their community and challenged by their teammates. Congratulations to all!
On Saturday, March 21 Hanabi will be having its monthly In-Class Shiai (tournament.) The Hajime and Chibi students will have their sumo competition at 9:55 followed by the Honto team judo competition at 11:00. This is one of our favorite events of the month and we hope everyone can attend!
We are well into our March promotions! Our belt promotion ceremony, for those who will be earning new belts, will be on Wednesday, March 25, at 6:45 pm. Students generally need 5 shimas before they are promoted to a higher belt but students can skip to a higher level if sensei decides it is appropriate. Testing is done continuously throughout the month until all of our students have been tested. Shima promotions will be $35 and new belts will be $50.
